Mechanically speaking, pretty much every car made in the last 10 years has a slot load CD drive so they are reliable. It's just not what we're used to in the PC market. Get the slot load, they're awesome, my pioneer 10X dvd drive, although a bit noisy, is much better than using any tray loading drive, it takes much less time to push in a cd than to place it in delicately, I couldn't go back to a tray load.
